what to expect
Prior to getting you on the table, I will go through the health history form with you. We will discuss your goals (if any) for the session and what is going on with your body and in your life. From this I will tailor a treatment for you.
I love to help clients relax and melt into my table as they let their body go. I am passionate about my work and about helping to facilitate relaxation and wellbeing.
I encourage you to leave the outside world at the door so that you can fully relax.
At all times the session is about you and what you need.
A few things to think about before coming to your session:
How does your body feel?
Do any areas of your body need extra attention and what is going on in those areas?
Is there anything going on in your life that you feel is affecting your body?
What are your goals for the session? Relaxation, time out, space, escape, healing ... something specific? ... nothing in particular?
It is best not to eat right before a treatment. Try not to eat anything really heavy 1-2 hours before.
After the session there will be a few minutes to talk. If you have any questions, I encourage you to ask them.
It is recommended that you stay well hydrated after a treatment.
Do not plan any intense physical activity after a treatment; give your body at least a few hours to relax and allow your body to just 'be'.
after the session
There are a couple of things I would like you do over the next couple of days to help you get the most out of your session:
1. Drink plenty of water or herbal teas (more than usual). This will help re-hydrate your body.
2. Cut down on drinks containing caffeine to help your cortisol and adrenaline levels.
3. Move your body. Go for a walk if you can. Stand up and move around. Stretch. Groove to your favourite music.
4. Eat lightly - give your body time to 'rest and digest'.
You may feel fatigued, especially if you haven't had time (or allowed yourself the time) to stop and rest for a while (and especially if you are more stressed than usual).
Be gentle with yourself. Rest if you need to (and you can).
After a treatment with me you will usually feel relaxed. Enjoy how that feels! We so often forget how good we CAN feel.
Occasionally though, you may experience tiredness or lethargy, feeling flat, or a heightened emotional state. That is also totally normal!
Any reactions are temporary and usually disappear within 24-48 hours, leaving you feeling refreshed and full of energy. If, however, for any reason, you feel unsure about your reaction to a treatment, please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss.
how many sessions are needed?
It is worth noting that it usually takes at least 3 treatments to see a significant positive improvement and difference to your wellbeing, and that I recommend at least monthly treatments to maintain this feeling of energy and wellness.
hot stone massage precautions
While hot stone massage can be beneficial for many, certain conditions require caution or contraindicate its use entirely. THis is why I do a thorough intake before your first session.
Those with high blood pressure, diabetes, or circulatory issues should consult their healthcare provider before receiving treatment, as the heat can affect blood flow and pressure.
Women with skin conditions such as sunburn, open wounds, or recent scar tissue should avoid direct stone placement on affected areas.
Certain medications, particularly those that affect sensation or blood thinners, may increase the risk of burns or bruising.
Additionally, women undergoing cancer treatment, especially radiation or chemotherapy, should seek medical clearance before receiving hot stone massage.
I provide massage to women throughout their pregnancy. In late pregnancy, it's often more comfortable to do the session laying on your side with plenty of pillow support. I modify the massage so that the heat is dialed down. A number of pressure points and certain essential oils are contraindicated in pregnancy, so these are avoided.
love notes
I experienced a session with Carolyn recently and the only way to describe it was magical.
Carolyn's healing space is so beautiful and calming and the hot stone massage was absolutely amazing!
After the relaxing, warming and luxurious massage I had a half hour sound healing with the most beautiful singing bowls and all I can say is wow! I left feeling relaxed, nourished and totally blissful.
Carolyn thank you for a truly amazing experience and I will definitely be back!
Leeane
I had the best massage with Carolyn.
She went above and beyond to make the experience as relaxing as possible, was attentive and accommodating to all personal requirements. Loved the thoughtful additions and comforts throughout such as the music, bolsters, heated blankets and hot rocks.
All wrapped up in a lovely, serene space.
Idyllic! Can't wait to return 💜
