Are you moving?

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop ...

I really like the analogy of my life being a big game of snakes and ladders. Quite at odds, I have to say, with what I thought my life would be!

Instead of a linear and logical progression in one direction, it has been a flowing burst forwards, followed by a few extra boosts and synchronicities, with a slide back a little (or a long) way or (and please excuse the mash up of analogies here) a chacha-ing spiral: two steps forward, one step back, with a few side steps and spins in between (with maybe a face plant or two) … Phew - what a mouthful!

Snakes could be …
missing out on a job
grief or trauma
death or illness
an unexpected bill
technology issues
a car crash
getting turned down for a promotion
anxiety or depression
losing purpose or motivation
worries about the future
lack of sleep
menopause

Your ladders could be …
landing a new job
accomplishing a challenging goal
a rejuvenating break away
a major milestone

but they could also be …
getting through the week
meeting up with friends
a smile or hug
your favourite plant flowering
just feeling good
getting the washing done, dried AND folded away
a soothing meditation
watching an uplifting movie or TV show
getting a good night’s sleep
the weather working in your favour
ticking off a job on your 'to do' list
a good song to dance to

But what if your snakes were gentle reminders to take a step back from striving, achieving and doing?
A chance to rest, relax, regroup, refresh, rethink, renew?

In this way, not all snakes are negative. It just depends on your perspective.

And like the game, we keep rolling the dice and moving. Some of us slowly, some of us more quickly, some of us forward, some of us backwards, each of us on our own separate journey.

The main thing to keep remembering is that, no matter how slowly you go, you DO.NOT.STOP.

Your life is not a competition; there are no rules that say you have to be or do something by a certain time or in a certain way.

It is your life and you have the choice to live it your way.

This week I gently urge you to keep going, no matter how slowly, as long as you do not stop.

Reflection

What have been some of your snakes?
How have you moved forward from them?
What is something good that came from them?
What are your favourite ladder moments?
What can you celebrate from them?

As I say at the end of my sessions …

Be gentle with yourself

Until next time
