how hot stone massage helps women

Women commonly visit me for a hot stone session with me for:
Stress management
Being able to consciously stop, rest and receive
Emotional states (particularly overwhelm, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, frustration, grief)
Life purpose/ life path
Decision making
Seeking a deeper connection to intuition or self
Transitioning through major life changes (e.g. relationship, career)
Feeling stuck
Work-life balance
Physical issues with an emotional or stress-related aspect
Feeling ‘out of sorts’, or ‘blah’ for no apparent reason

Rest isn't a reward, it's fuel for the journey.

hot stone benefits for women

emotional well-being:

Hot stone massage offers more than just physical benefits; it's can be a holistic experience that nurtures emotional health as well. For women, regular sessions can foster a deeper connection with their bodies, potentially alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety while boosting overall emotional wellness. In an era where many women report struggling with self-esteem, the serene atmosphere of my massage studio serves as a refuge for relaxation and essential self-care. This peaceful environment, combined with the nurturing touch of massage, can help women prioritise their well-being and cultivate a more positive self-image.

stress relief and relaxation:

Hot stone massage promotes deep relaxation by combining the therapeutic effects of heat with the long flowing strokes of a relaxation massage. The warmth of the stones penetrates deep into muscle tissue, releasing tension and promoting a sense of calm. It is also incredibly grounding. This can be particularly beneficial for women who are often juggling multiple responsibilities and situations. The massage can trigger the release of endorphins, the body's natural feel-good hormones, leading to improved mood and reduced anxiety.

better sleep:

The deep relaxation induced by hot stone massage can have a significant impact on sleep quality. Many women struggle with sleep issues due to hormonal fluctuations, stress, or anxiety. The massage can help regulate cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and increase the production of serotonin and melatonin, which are crucial for maintaining a healthy sleep-wake cycle. Improved sleep can have far-reaching benefits for overall health, including better cognitive function, improved mood, and enhanced immune system function.

pain relief:

Hot stone massage can be an effective natural pain management tool. The heat helps soothe muscle aches and reduces inflammation, which can be particularly helpful for women experiencing menstrual cramps or lower back pain. The massage, combined with the heat, can also help alleviate tension headaches and migraines, which are more common in women. For those with chronic conditions like fibromyalgia, the gentle pressure and warmth can provide significant relief from widespread pain and tenderness.

improved circulation:

The heat from the stones causes blood vessels to dilate. This increased blood flow brings more oxygen and nutrients to muscles and organs throughout the body. For women, this can be especially beneficial during menstruation, as improved circulation may help alleviate bloating and water retention. Enhanced blood flow can also contribute to better skin health and a natural, healthy glow.

enhanced skin health:

The application of warm stones can have several benefits for skin health. The heat causes pores to open, which can help cleanse the skin of impurities and promote detoxification. This can be particularly beneficial for women concerned about maintaining clear, healthy skin. The increased circulation brought about by the massage also nourishes skin cells, potentially improving skin tone and elasticity.

what to expect

Prior to getting you on the table, I will go through the health history form with you. We will discuss your goals (if any) for the session and what is going on with your body and in your life. From this I will tailor a treatment for you.

I love to help clients relax and melt into my table as they let their body go. I am passionate about my work and about helping to facilitate relaxation and wellbeing.

I encourage you to leave the outside world at the door so that you can fully relax.

At all times the session is about you and what you need.

A few things to think about before coming to your session:

How does your body feel?
Do any areas of your body need extra attention and what is going on in those areas?
Is there anything going on in your life that you feel is affecting your body?
What are your goals for the session? Relaxation, time out, space, escape, healing ... something specific? ... nothing in particular?

It is best not to eat right before a treatment. Try not to eat anything really heavy 1-2 hours before.

After the session there will be a few minutes to talk. If you have any questions, I encourage you to ask them.

It is recommended that you stay well hydrated after a treatment.

Do not plan any intense physical activity after a treatment; give your body at least a few hours to relax and allow your body to just 'be'.

after the session

There are a couple of things I would like you do over the next couple of days to help you get the most out of your session:

1. Drink plenty of water or herbal teas (more than usual). This will help re-hydrate your body.
2. Cut down on drinks containing caffeine to help your cortisol and adrenaline levels.
3. Move your body. Go for a walk if you can. Stand up and move around. Stretch. Groove to your favourite music.
4. Eat lightly - give your body time to 'rest and digest'.

You may feel fatigued, especially if you haven't had time (or allowed yourself the time) to stop and rest for a while (and especially if you are more stressed than usual).

Be gentle with yourself. Rest if you need to (and you can).

After a treatment with me you will usually feel relaxed. Enjoy how that feels! We so often forget how good we CAN feel.

Occasionally though, you may experience tiredness or lethargy, feeling flat, or a heightened emotional state. That is also totally normal!

Any reactions are temporary and usually disappear within 24-48 hours, leaving you feeling refreshed and full of energy. If, however, for any reason, you feel unsure about your reaction to a treatment, please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss.

how many sessions are needed?

It is worth noting that it usually takes at least 3 treatments to see a significant positive improvement and difference to your wellbeing, and that I recommend at least monthly treatments to maintain this feeling of energy and wellness.

hot stone massage precautions

While hot stone massage can be beneficial for many, certain conditions require caution or contraindicate its use entirely. THis is why I do a thorough intake before your first session.

Those with high blood pressure, diabetes, or circulatory issues should consult their healthcare provider before receiving treatment, as the heat can affect blood flow and pressure.

Women with skin conditions such as sunburn, open wounds, or recent scar tissue should avoid direct stone placement on affected areas.

Certain medications, particularly those that affect sensation or blood thinners, may increase the risk of burns or bruising.

Additionally, women undergoing cancer treatment, especially radiation or chemotherapy, should seek medical clearance before receiving hot stone massage.

I provide massage to women throughout their pregnancy. In late pregnancy, it's often more comfortable to do the session laying on your side with plenty of pillow support. I modify the massage so that the heat is dialed down. A number of pressure points and certain essential oils are contraindicated in pregnancy, so these are avoided.

love notes

Thank you dear  Carolyn Wilkins for creating such a safe and sacred space to be nurtured and held in love this morning.
What a perfect way to start the day.....then it just kept getting better and better!
Infinite blessings to you.
Shine on!!!
Sue

This was an experience that just kept on giving, starting with a warm welcome at the front door. Carolyn then took the time to find out about my lifestyle and current state of my health so that she could taylor a massage to suit my needs.
The massage room was clean with decor reminiscent of Bali.
The massage bed was sooo comfortable.
I found Carolyn very professional with expert hands leaving me feeling relaxed.
A glass of cold, lemon infused water with a chocolate was a nice touch at the end.
The entire experience was within my comfort zone and I would highly recommend Carolyn to anyone thinking of a massage.
Don't wait, book one now!!
